My experiences with CP Audio are with the CP600 12” D4 and the CP1200 12” D4. At first I helped with some R&D on both subs and after a few changes that line was ready for hard testing. The subwoofer was strong, well built and ready for a lot of play time. I tried a few enclosures, quickly realizing that it loved the smaller enclosures both ported and sealed.

For sealed this is great, but ported boxes that are small create something of a problem. You go to put a port in and realize the port volume is quite long for a small enclosure. There is a great trade off called efficiency when you increase the enclosure size to accommodate a larger port. With a bit larger port and airspace you will still have rated power handling as well as the efficiency to keep up with much more expensive subwoofers.

I determined a common size of enclosure and port for both the CP600 and CP1200 and got to work testing various port tuning for each sub. Each subwoofer is capable of producing in excess of 146 db with the spl enclosure I have provided. The CP1200 even beats the budget neo SPL subwoofer at low to mid power which I custom built for that exact purpose. This is impressive to say the least

Another test done with the CP600 was in a pro street vehicle with two subwoofers. We swapped out the regular woofers for the CP600 and tested. They did a 153.5 dB which was the same score we got with the original subs.

There is a natural transition between the CP600 and CP1200. If you started off with the CP600 on lower power and in the future wanted to upgrade to the bigger CP1200 you could do that very easily with little to no modifications to the enclosure. The CP1200 naturally takes much more power and hits much lower tones with absolute authority. You can’t go wrong with either option.

For 4th order or 6th order bandpass enclosures I would highly recommend the CP1200. Given the same power and enclosure, while both the CP600 and CP1200 will do reasonably well, the 1200 will outperform the 600.

Pick your power and choose the subwoofer!
